MACORNER.PRG MacCorner 1.0.
READTHIS.1ST This file.
-- What this is -----------------------------------------------------------
╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣
This is an absolutely useless little program that simply gives your screen
rounded corners, like the Mac has. (I had to use a Mac for several hours
today, and it got me thinking how I could produce rounded corners on an ST.
This program is the result.)
-- Freeware notice --------------------------------------------------------
╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣
This program is Freeware. If you like it, great, because it's free; you
can distribute it all you like, with the following restrictions:
1. You can't sell the program, except reasonable charges to cover the
cost of the media. This cost should not exceed $10.
2. You do not alter the program or this file, and both must be
distributed together.
-- Using the program ------------------------------------------------------
╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣
Toss MACORNER.PRG in your AUTO folder. Reboot. When MACORNER.PRG runs
your screen will develop rounded corners. You can change resolutions, run
other programs, do whatever... you will get rounded screen corners.
MacCorner basically works by constantly drawing the rounded corners on your
screen. If you move the mouse within the corner, you'll see the effect, as
your mouse pointer gets overwritten by the rounded corner. Since it's
remotely possible this might cause a problem with other software, you can
turn this redrawing on or off by pressing CONTROL and RIGHT SHIFT on your
keyboard. (You might want to do this in paint programs, for example.)
Note that ALL THIS DOES is turn the corner redrawing on or off--if you turn
off the redraw, you won't remove the corners from your screen, just stop
them from being redrawn. In Geneva or MultiTOS you can use the hot key to
redraw the screen, to remove the corners.
-- Known Problems ---------------------------------------------------------
╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣
This program represents three hours' work. That is, I didn't spend a lot
of time on it and I really don't intend to spend much time changing it
unless it becomes _enormously_ popular. I know there are some things that
might be changed or improved, but I'm not sure if or when I will do them.
- MacCorner works *ONLY* in bitplane modes. It will not operate in Falcon
true color modes, but will remain resident so when you switch out of true
color mode it will re-activate. If you try to run it on a graphics card
that doesn't use bitplane format (that is, most of them) you'll see junk
in your screen corners, if you see anything at all.
- MacCorner always draws its corners in VDI color 1 (actually, the highest
hardware color, which is almost always VDI color 1). If you change this
color with the control panel to be anything other than black, it will
look funny.
- The rounded black corners will only look nice if your display normally has
a black border. This is true for Falcon users with VGA monitors, and
anyone using ST High resolution (on an ST or TT). In TT resolutions, the
background color (usually white) makes a border around the screen, and on
STs with color monitors, the background color _fills_ the screen. If
you're using a system like that, well, there's not much I can do!
(MacCorners is installed on my Falcon, but not my TT, for that very
reason.)

-- Advertisement ----------------------------------------------------------
╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣╣
Well, actually, this isn't going to be much of an advertisement. View 2½
is just around the corner, and there are more _new_ features than there are
_existing_ features. Lots of goodies are being added, most of them direct
requests from users--people who use the program constantly.
Also be sure to keep your eye out for Photo Show for the ST/STe; soon
you'll be able to display Kodak Photo CD images on a plain-vanilla ST (as
long as you have a CD-ROM drive).
